As many of you may have heard during state conventions, the AAUW national office has produced radio public service announcements (PSAs) using the “ In That Moment I Knew” creative concept which was used in the very well-received AAUW annual report earlier this year. In fact, the radio public service messages were adapted from four of the compelling personal stories featured in the annual report. If you have not had an opportunity to hear the PSAs, you can listen to them on the AAUW website at http://www.aauw.org/media/MomentIKnew.cfm. The page also features information and resources for members of the public who are responding to the PSAs and want to find out how they can join AAUW in breaking through barriers, including how to locate a local branch.
The PSAs have been sent to a targeted list of 1,250 radio stations across the country. The distribution list of stations is attached and stations are listed in alphabetical order by state and market .
As radio stations are an especially local medium, we know that AAUW branches contacting the stations in your respective markets and encouraging them to air the PSAs can be an effective way to obtain airplay. In addition to the attached radio station distribution list (which includes station phone numbers), we have attached an easy to use phone script along with some additional tips for contacting local radio stations.
While not every market/city will be reflected on the list of radio stations, in some markets there may be more than one branch within a station’s area of coverage. In cases where two or more branches could potentially contact a station, this is not a problem. Simply let the station know that that they may also receive a call from another AAUW branch in their coverage area, and that this is fine as the PSAs direct all listeners to the main AAUW website where they can then locate their nearest AAUW branch.
Lastly, if there is a radio station in your community that is not on the distribution list but your branch already has a positive relationship with the station, please let us know and we will have the PSAs sent to them, as well.
We sincerely thank you in advance for your support in contacting the radio stations that are listed for your community! If you have questions or need additional info, please do not hesitate to contact me via media@aauw.org.
It’s as simple as persuading your local station to give AAUW 30 or 60 seconds of airtime in those dead winter months to hear:
